Calvin Allen Murphy

Calvin Allen Murphy, 83, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, November 21, 2014, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.

He was born August 1, 1931, in Drew County, to the late Charlie Allen and Alma Verline Smith Murphy. He received his education at Drew Central High School, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and worked 18 years in construction and maintenance for the State of Arkansas before retiring in 1996. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Piney Woods Hunting Club, the VFW and a former member of the local Carpenter’s Union.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Murphy, Malvin Murphy, Norman Douglas Murphy and Thomas Barton Murphy; sisters, Alma Murphy Slocum Enderby, Eunice Murphy Judkins and Clara Murphy Taylor Waller.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Ann Hobson Murphy, whom he married on September 2, 1967; a step son, Richard McLaughlin, of Hot Springs; step daughters, Myra Hardy, of Pine Bluff, and Marcie Sites (David), of Stuttgart; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Union Ridge Cemetery near Monticello, with Reverend Charles Slocum officiating.
