CASA needs more volunteers
David and Valerie Ponder of Monticello were recently sworn in by Circuit Judge Teresa French, left, as volunteers for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the 10th Judicial District. The Ponders are pastors of Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Monticello. CASA volunteers advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children in juvenile court. They must complete 30 hours of CASA training and nine hours of court observation. Every volunteer must pass criminal background checks and is screened until training is complete. For more information about CASA, call program director Dhana Carter at 367-9449 or 870-831-9536. "We need more of the community's involvement to make sure our children's needs are being met for tomorrow," said Carter.
