Cooper named Advance advertising manager
Tony Cooper has joined the staff of The Advance Monticellonian as the paper's new advertising manager, publisher Tom White announced this week.
"We are excited about Tony's arrival and are glad to welcome him to our team," said White. "He brings an extensive knowledge of the newspaper industry and has experience in all facets of the business. I know he will be a great asset to our customers, and our community."
Cooper, who most recently worked as online and classified sales manager of the Gadsden (Ala.) Times, has also been employed as a publisher and ad director by Gate House Media, which owns daily and weekly papers and produces other niche publications in Stuttgart and Gonzales, La. He has served as advertising director at several other papers in the South, and is the former owner of the Magnolia Gazette in Magnolia, Miss.
“I look forward to working with the award-winning staff at the Advance," said Cooper. "They have a history of producing relevant stories that readers love to read, while at the same time being a great community partner and watchdog."
Cooper, who holds a bachelor's degree in advertising from the University of Southern Mississippi, added, “I hope to lead the advertising staff to be better marketing consultants for our local merchants. We will continue to produce quality newspaper ads for our customers, as well as informative niche publications and the best local online news website. My background in online development will help us develop advertising opportunities to expand the Internet into the marketing mix for our clients.
"I say all that to say this: I will help the staff to help our customers make their cash registers ring; after all, that is the ultimate bottom line.”
“I don’t have to tell everyone reading this that Monticello is a great place to live. I’m finding that out for myself as I become acclimated to the area. I look forward to meeting more and more people as I become active in community activities,” Cooper concluded.
