Densmore, Barnette combine for 8 runs
Shawna Densmore and Andra Barnette combined to drive in eight runs in Drew Central’s 15-0 win over Lafayette County in conference play Thursday.
Lafayette County surrendered three consecutive walks to start the game. Densmore’s single plated two runs to give the Lady Pirates an early 4-0 lead.
She drove in two more runs in the second inning after Jodi Person singled and Shelby Sturgis walked. Densmore’s hot bat gave Drew Central a 6-0 lead in the second inning.
The Lady Pirates added to their advantage in the third with a two-out rally.
Sturgis doubled to keep the inning alive, then Densmore and Kara Moore both drew walks to load the bases for Barnette.
Barnette drove in her first three runs of the game with a triple over the head of the Lafayette County left fielder down the third baseline. The hit cleared the bases and gave Drew Central a 9-0 lead.
Lafayette County was unable to push any runs across against Moore and the Lady Pirate defense.
Toni Flemister led off the Drew Central fourth inning with a base hit then scored on a Lafayette County error. Amanda Brazier followed with a single to drive in the eleventh run of the game.
Sturgis drove in two runs in the inning with a double past the Lafayette County left fielder, who was replaced after her second misplayed ball of the game.
Densmore and Moore each drew a walk to again load the bases for Barnette.
This time Barnette only plated one run with a single.
Drew Central scored a run later in the inning on a fielder’s choice to put the mercy rule into effect.
