Jewell Cobbs, 87, of Monticello, died Thursday, February 19, 2009, at his home.
Born May 12, 1921, in Wilmar, he was a son of the late Mittie and General Cobbs.
He was a former employee of Arvin Industries and Pullman Railroad, and was a WWII veteran. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmar.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ora Lee Smith; and a brother, Robert Crowder.
Survivors include a daughter, LaQueta Taylor of St. Louis, Mo.; three stepchildren, Willie Marie Baxter of St. Louis, and Frankie Williams and Lloyd Railey, both of Chicago, Ill.; and eight stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, February 25) at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmar with the Rev. Michael Binns Sr. officiating. Burial was at Wilmar Cemetery with arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Curley Jackson, Norman Mapp, Sherman Ingram, Melvin Shipp and Kevin Tenner.
