Man hospitalized after being shot in the leg; juvenille arrested
At approximately 9:35 p.m. on Wednesday, the Drew County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to a home on Highway 35 East in reference to a shooting.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they observed a male lying on a neighbor's front porch bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper right leg area.
Witness accounts informed deputies that an argument had occurred between the man and his wife just prior to the shooting. During the argument, a female exited the the home heading for a nearby neighbors'. The man followed the woman as did a 16-year old male with a loaded shotgun.
Words were exchanged between the man and the juvenile and at some point the gun discharged, striking the man in the leg.
The juvenile was placed under arrest at the scene and placed in detention. The victim was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.
According to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober, the incident is still under investigation and it is unclear at this time if the gun was discharged intentionally or by accident.
