Annual Festival Upcoming

The 61st Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival activities will offi cially begin this weekend and run through Saturday, June 10th. The festival began in 1956 as a one-day event and has grown into a weeklong celebration. Celebrated as the oldest continuously running festival in the state, the event draws over 30,000 visitors from many states each year.

Activities are planned to attract attendees of all ages. From beauty pageants to turtle races, there is something for everyone. Top names in entertainment, tomato eating contests, a 5K run and walk, an antique car show, a steak cook off, a parade and a giant fi reworks display are just a few of the many happenings.

On the opening weekend, there is the Miss Pink Tomato pageants and the PTF Trap shoot, followed during the week by the talent show, gospel jamboree and the cutest dog contest.

Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 bring a weekend fi lled with the All-Tomato Luncheon, Arts and Crafts, 5K races, Antique Car Show, PTF Parade, Little Miss Pink Tomato, Steak Cook off, Cutest Baby, Street Dance, Quilt Show, the Pink Tomato Festival Swimming Relays (in which the Monticello Marlins annually take part; the meet is held at the Donald W. Reynolds YMCA Pool) and many other fun and exciting things to do.

One of the highlights ofthe festival each year is the Entertainment line-up. On Friday night, the headliner is Trey Hawkins with Barrett Baber and the White Mustangs. On Saturday night, Sawyer Brown will entertain, along with Fortune Sons+One and Stone Aces. The grand finale will be the giant Fireworks Display.

Antique car show

The 2017 Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival Antique Rod and Classic Car Show is scheduled for Saturday, June 10. The Car Show will be in the Warren City Park on Martin and Church Streets and will begin at 9 a.m. The Show is being sponsored by Gardner Body and Glass, LLC.

Classes included in the show are Pre 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s plus Custom and Stock classes. Nothing will be newer than 1979. Enthusiasts will have the opportunity to view the greatest classic antique automobiles in a relaxed setting.

There will be a $500 prize for the Best of Show, sponsored by B & M Automotive and Southern Truck and Trailer of Arkansas, LLC.

Registration on the day of show will start at 9 a.m. and the judging will begin at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $20 preregistration or $25 on show day. Entry forms are available at Gardner Body and Glass at 607 East Church Street in Warren.

Little Pink Tomato

This year’s deadline for entering the 2017 Little Miss Pink Tomato Pageant is Friday.

The pageant is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 10 at the Warren Cultural Center on John Scobey Drive.

Applicants must be 4 or 5 years of age on June 1 and reside in Bradley, Ashley, Calhoun, Dallas, Drew, Lincoln or Union County.

The Little Miss contestants will rehearse at the Cultural Center at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 9 and will ride in the Pink Tomato Festival Parade on Saturday, June 10, which will begin at 10 a.m.

Trap shoot

The second annual Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival Trap Shoot will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 4 at the Warren Shooting Complex.

Two-person teams may register at the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce on Myrtle Street in Warren or at the complex on the day of competition. Registration fee is $80 per team.

Teams may bring their shells, 12 or 20 gauge, or they may purchase them at the range. Each team will shoot two rounds of trap.

The winning team will receive $500 and a trophy. Second place will receive $120 and third place will receive $80.

The shooting complex will open at 1 p.m. for practice rounds and lunch will be available for $6.
