Monticello man is charged in Drew County deputy’s death
Samuel Vincent, 24, of Monticello is being charged in the death of Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy Timothy Braden following last week’s crash.
Vincent is being charged with one count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver; one count of possession of drug paraphernalia; one count of fleeing; and one count of first-degree murder. All those charges are felonies.
According to court documents, approximately 1:35 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, Braden called the Monticello Police Department to tell them he was attempting to stop a Dodge Charger.
He reported that the car was refusing to stop and was fleeing.
The pursuit turned on to Barkada Road for approximately four miles, where Vincent then turned on to Wells Lane. The vehicles were traveling at accelerated speeds and both drivers lost control of the vehicles and crashed.
Drew County Deputy Brandon Wright arrived on the scene shortly after the crash and took Vincent in to custody. Braden was taken to Drew Memorial Health System, where he was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.
The Arkansas State Police are investigating the case and Vincent is being held in the Ashley County Jail. Vincent’s bond was set at $200,000 and he is expected to appear in court on Monday, Sept 18.
“I encourage everyone to please pull over when you see blue lights,” Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober said. “Fleeing is never the answer.”
