Shady Grove MBC again center for Operation Christmas Child
It’s never too early to begin thinking of those in need at Christmas.
Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church will once again serve as a relay center for Operation Christmas Child during National Collection Week, which this year will be Nov. 13-20.
Every year, Shady Grove MBC collects shoe boxes and toys and packs them together for underprivileged children. It is their belief that a small shoebox can have a big impact.
“What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal,” according to a statement from Shady Grove. “We encourage everyone to be a part of changing children’s lives all over the world in Jesus’ name, through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child.”
How to pack a shoe box
Use an empty, standard size box or a small plastic container. The the box and lid may be wrapped separately, but wrapping is not required. Most importantly, the church urges all participants to pray for the child who will receive the box. Decide whether the box will be for a boy or a girl and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14. Those interested in participating can pick up a brochure and suggested packing list from Shady Grove. Mark the correct age category on the label and tape the label to the top of the box.
Fill shoe box with gifts
Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Please include one item a child can immediately embrace such as a stuffed toy, doll, ball or truck.
Include a donation
Please donate $9 or more for each shoebox prepared to help cover shipping and other project costs. Givung can be made online by using the “Follow your box donation” option on the Shady Grove website, or checks can be written to Samaritan’s Purse, with a notation of OCC on the memo line, and placed it in an envelope to top of the gift items inside the box. If participants are preparing more than one box, please make only one donation.
Drop off at Shady Grove
Place two rubber bands around each closed shoe box and drop it off at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, at 111 Arkansas Highway 172 in Monticello, during collection week, Nov. 13-20.
Shady Grove also provides a way to participate for those who cannot physically pack a box. Visit the webiste, www.samaritanspurse.org/buildabox/, and select items to customize a box. A $25 donation will be used to build a box and send it to a child in need.
