SUSPECT IN COURT NOW IN BEATING DEATH
Monticello Police Chief Eddy Deaton said the Arkansas State Police has been requested to assist in the investigation of a homicide reported Thursday night by MPD officers. Special Agents of the state police Criminal Investigation Division have been assigned to the case.
Local police officers responded at approximately 6 p.m. to Turtle Creek Apartments, 113 Oakland Avenue. Inside an apartment, police found the body of a woman who appeared to have been beaten to death. At 2:39 p.m. Friday, Arkansas State Police identified Roxanne Best, 32, of Monticello as the victim.
The woman’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the exact manner and cause of death.
In the past hour, Camiron King, 28, of Monticello was formally charged with murder in the first degree in connection with Best's death, according to ASP reports. Bond has been set at $500,000. King is being held at the Drew County Detention Facility.
