Retired local dispatcher wins American Red Cross Hero Award
Retired Monticello 911-dispatched, Gail Hyatt, was awarded the Arkansas Red Cross Hero Award Wednesday for her role in the rescue of a man lost in a life-threatening situation.
Hyatt, who just recently retired from her dispatcher position after 30 years of service, encouraged a man lost in the wildfire that occurred Sept. 19, 2013, and threatened the Wilmar community.
Hyatt was awarded the organization’s Law Enforcement Hero Award, presented to a law enforcement officer or dispatcher who exhibits exceptional heroism either in response to an emergency potentially life-threatening situation or through such on-going responses.
This award recognizes a law enforcement professional who has demonstrated an outstanding level of service to the people of their community. Nominee could be on or off-duty at the time of the incident.
