Winfred Everett Thurman
Winfred Everett Thurman, 91, died Saturday, September 2, 2017, at his home in Booneville, Miss. He was born October 17, 1925, to Charlie Allen and Elma Pearl Wells Thurman in the Prairie Grove community of Drew County.
He served two years in the U.S. Army in 1945-46. He was an employee of Houston Light and Power in Houston from 1948 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Booneville Civitan Club. He was a member of Park Memorial Baptist Church in Houston.
He and his wife, Bernice Maxine Smith, met and married in Houston in 1956. After his retirement they returned to his wife’s hometown of Booneville. He enjoyed gardening, making novelty yard art and spending time with family.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 9 at Booneville Funeral Home with Carter and Jackie Smith officiating. Visitation was two hours prior to service. Burial was in Liberty Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by one brother, Billy Joe (Carol) Thurman and their three children, Gwen (Doug) Gates and Rick (Leanna) Thurman of Houston and Lynda (Mike) Martin of New Mexico; two sisters, Mary Thurman and Quida (Clifford) Bowden and their two children, Mark (Kim) Bowden and Susan (Bobby) Harris, all of Hamburg; and one other niece, Elizabeth Thurman of Hamburg; a brother-in-law, Glen (Jo Ann) Smith of Booneville; and two nieces, Vicki (Randy) Stutts and Cindi (Keith) Lovell, both of Booneville.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bernice Maxine Smith Thurman; his parents; a brother, Cecil Thurman; and one sister, Nell Thurman.
