Relay for Life gets underway Friday
The annual Relay for Life fundraiser will be held this Friday and Saturday, April 25-24, at City Park. The event raises money for the American Cancer Society.
Relay For Life is an overnight team event that increases awareness of cancer in the community and raises much needed funds to fight the disease.
At Relay For Life, teams of friends, neighbors, families, and coworkers commit to keeping at least one member walking the track at all times - because cancer never sleeps.
For many, the experience of gathering together with other survivors is powerful and moving.
All survivors are invited to attend a Survivors’ Meal starting at 5 p.m. If you would like to attend the meal and need more information, please contact Emily Ashley at 460-6400.
The Relay will start at 6 p.m. and will not end until 6 a.m. There will be plenty of all night entertainment, and ceremonies. Entertainers include The Hammers, Jimmy Orrell, Donnie Mathis, Monticello High School and Monticello Junior High cheerleaders and prom squad, Monticello Dance Academy, various games, singers and more.
Also, it is not too late to purchase a luminaria. Luminarias will be placed around the pavilion in honor and memory of friends and relatives who have fought cancer. Persons interested in purchasing one are asked to contact Kay Crook at 870-460-1580 before noon on April 24. Luminarias are $10 and can be purchased the night of Relay. Checks should be made out to the American Cancer Society.
