UAM Announces 2013 Homecoming Schedule

The dedication of a newly renovated residence hall, the presentation of the 2013 Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit, and the annual Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet highlight the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s homecoming celebration October 24-26.

UAM will dedicate Bankston Hall on October 25 at 11 a.m. The facility was originally built in1968 and named for former Arkansas A&M President Marvin Bankston. The dedication will include a ribbon-cutting and tours of the building.

UAM will present the 2013 Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit to four alumni at the A&M / UAM Alumni Awards Dinner on October 25 at 7 p.m. in the John F. Gibson University Center. This year’s award recipients are Lionel Maten, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs and housing at the University of Mississippi; Dr. Tony Thurman, superintendent of the Cabot School District;Bobby Jelks, president of Franks Management Company, LLC of Shreveport; and Martha Manning Carlson of Alma, regional executive with Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield. The university will also present the Continuing the ConnectionAward to Drs. Glen and Mary Jane Gilbert. Tickets to the dinner are $15 per person and may be purchased at the door or by contacting the Office of Alumni Affairs at (870) 460-1028.

The Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet will be held October 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center. This year’s inductees are former football linemen Roland Autrey and M. L. Mann, track and cross country distance runner Jeff Pope, softball outfielder Jodie Scott, and shot put and discus specialist Milton Williams. Robert Leonard, director of the Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship, will receive the UAM Spirit Award. Tickets to the banquet are $35 and may be purchased by calling the UAM athletics office at (870) 460-1058.

Thursday, October 24

4 p.m. – Homecoming Parade/Pep Rally

The marching band and cheerleaders lead a parade around campus, followed by a pep rally in the University Center gymnasium.

5:30 p.m. – UAM Sports Hall of Fame Reception

Chancellor’s Home, 471 University Drive. All alumni and friends are invited to meet the newest members of the UAM Sports Hall of Fame.

6:30 p.m. – UAM Sports Hall of Fame Banquet

Friday, October 25

11 a.m. – Dedication of Bankston Hall

Bankston Hall front lawn. Join us for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour as we dedicate the newly-renovated Bankston Hall.

6 p.m. – A&M/UAM Alumni and Friends “Welcome Home” Reception

Chancellor’s Home, 471 University Drive. Open to all alumni and friends of the University.

7 p.m. – A&M/UAM Alumni Awards Dinner

8:30 a.m. – A&M/UAM Letterman’s Breakfast
