Vacations are a time to relax and have fun with the family
I’ve been waiting months for this week to get here. The family and I are vacationing as you read this.
It’s been a week of no cell phone, Facebook, email, and very limited Internet usage. Yes, it’s a real vacation where I don’t have to think about work. It only comes around once a year and I am enjoying it.
Jimmy and I agreed to always take a vacation every year with our family. That’s something he nor I really got growing up.
Yes we did the trips to the lake and the camping out. Jimmy got the trips to his aunt’s house and to Six Flags in Atlanta every year when he was growing up.
Since we wanted to travel more than our parents did with us, we decided early on in our marriage we’d vacation every single year and we have with the exception of the years when the babies were born.
If I had a baby that year, no vacation was taken because Jimmy took off to be with me in the hospital all three times.
However, in 2003, we did take a weekend trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. We learned really fast that the Heart of the Smoky Mountains was too far for a weekend get away at just over eight hours away.
We’ve been to Tennessee, the beach, Disney, and Universal Studios several times over the years.
In 2008, we were tired of all the traveling so we decided to vacation a little closer to home in Atlanta. We visited Stone Mountain, Six Flags, White Water, and the downtown area where the Georgia Aquarium and the Coke factory is located. We even went to a Braves game that trip, which isn’t unusual. Jimmy and boys love the Braves and we used to go to at least one game every year.
This year, we took Gavin to see Mickey Mouse for the very first time. The first time is always the most memorable and I am so very excited.
The first year Jordan and Cameron went to see Mickey was in May 2004. Jordan was three and Cameron was only about 10 months old. My granny, mom, brother and his family went with us that year. We learned really quick that Robert isn’t exactly a get up at the crack of dawn vacationer.
We on the other hand like to get to the parks early before the lines mount up.
Over the years, Jimmy, the boys and I have made a lot of great memories as a family by remaining true to our word to take a vacation every year.
There are a lot of people, my parents and even my brother, who really don’t ever go on vacation. That is sad because vacations are just a time to relax and have fun. I’m glad that I have been fortunate enough to give my family that every year.
Well I’ll see you all when I get back.
