Johnny Lee White passed away May 15 and was funeralized May 23 at Mt. Harmony MBC in Pine Bluff, where Rev. Robert Handley is pastor. He was laid to rest at Brooks Chapel Cemetery. He and his wife, the former Irma Jean Russ, were originally from Monticello. Rev. and Mrs. E.E. Russ were here for the funeral Rev. Russ is Irma Jean's brother. Easkin and Merle Ann Burks of Tennessee were here for the funeral. Margaret Ridgell, Mozella Wimbley and Mae Cavaness attended the funeral, as did Eddie Haynes and Tracy Haynes of Georgia.
Mae Cavaness and Mozella Wimbley attended the "100 Women in Red" program Saturday night at First MBC, where Rev. Richardson is pastor. Mrs. Richardson was the speaker. She gave a very dynamic address. Mrs. Rozina Owens was recognized for her many years of service as president of the senior choir. The members gave her a beautiful bouquet of lowers and many other gifts.
Sorry to hear that John Simpson is on the sick list. Hope he will be up and doing good soon.
Mae Cavaness attended services at Mt. Pleasant/Campground AME Church, where missionary Mary Purifoy is pastor, Sunday morning. They had a Women's Day program Sunday evening. Missionary Callie Bradford of St. Paul AME Church in Dallas, Texas, was their guest speaker. The men made a delicious dinner for the women. The presiding elder of the Monticello district brought the morning sermon, taken from Job 2:3. His subject was "Trust in God."
Rev. and Mrs. Roosevelt Lindsey attended Johnny Lee White's funeral. He is the son of R.V. and Inez Lindsey. They were Irma Jean's classmates.
Sorry to hear of the passing of H.D. Harrell and Pete Lambert. Pete Lambert will be funeralized May 27 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hamburg and laid to rest at Lacey Cemetery. He was the nephew of J.D. Lambert of Monticello.
